چکیده

Introduction Some patients continue to experience palpitations, near syncope, and syncope after pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation. In these patients it is very useful to correlate symptomswith arrhythmias and to confirm that their implanted device is working appropriately and is programmed optimally. External event monitoring can be a helpful adjunct in this evaluation but is inconvenient and not tolerated well by many patients. A valuable alternative for patients who already have a specific Medtronic pacemaker or ICD may be the use of a Medtronic patient activator to mark symptomatic events for direct, convenient correlation of symptoms and rhythms.

Syncope: Review of Monitoring Modalities

Elucidating the underlying cause of unexplained syncope, palpitations or other possible arrhythmia-related symptoms is a formidable clinical challenge. Cardiac monitoring supplements the most important "test" in patients with syncope or palpitations, that of a thoughtful history and physical examination. Ideally, comprehensive physiologic monitoring during spontaneous symptoms would constitute ...

Correlation in Young Patients With Syncope and Palpitations Efficacy of Implantable Loop Recorders in Establishing Symptom-Rhythm

Objective. To evaluate efficacy of the recently introduced implantable loop recorder (ILR) in establishing symptom-rhythm correlation in young patients with syncope, near syncope, palpitations, and acute life-threatening events (ALTEs). Methods. A retrospective study was conducted with patients with ILR from 3 pediatric centers. Inclusion criteria were age <25 years and a minimum follow-up of 1...

The use of external event monitoring (web-loop) in the elucidation of symptoms associated with arrhythmias in a general population

OBJECTIVE To correlate arrhythmic symptoms with the presence of significant arrhythmias through the external event monitoring (web-loop). METHODS Between January and December 2011, the web-loop was connected to 112 patients (46% of them were women, mean age 52±21 years old). Specific arrhythmic symptoms were defined as palpitations, pre-syncope and syncope observed during the monitoring. Supr...

An Engineering Perspective of External Cardiac Loop Recorder: A Systematic Review

External cardiac loop recorder (ELR) is a kind of ECG monitoring system that records cardiac activities of a subject continuously for a long time. When the heart palpitations are not the frequent and nonspecific character, it is difficult to diagnose the disease. In such a case, ELR is used for long-term monitoring of heart signal of the patient. But the cost of ELR is very high. Therefore, it ...

Electromagnetic interference in an implantable loop recorder caused by a portable digital media player.

The implantable loop recorder has been shown to be a cost-effective tool for diagnosis of intermittent cardiovascular symptoms such as syncope and palpitations. Electromagnetic interference in these recorders may be caused by commonly encountered electronic devices such as antitheft electronic surveillance systems and magnetic resonance imaging cameras. In this report, we describe interference ...
